Why I Quit Travel Blogging and You Should Too
To start off, I want to make it clear that I never quit at anything in life because I see it as a failure that I don’t want to be associated with my life, just like millions of other people around the world. I do recommend that you quit travel blogging though and I will explain why.
There are two different types of travel bloggers:
Those that blog because they generally enjoy showcasing their writing (5%)
Those that want to monetize their blog (95%)
If you fall into the 5% category then you should carry on doing what you love but if you fall into the 95% then you should just stop. I am not saying that you should give up on a dream if it really is the one thing you want to achieve in life but you need to be prepared for years of hard work with no return unless you get extremely lucky.
Most people start a travel blog because they think it will make them money within a week and I guarantee you that they end up closing the doors after 6 months. Monetizing a blog in this era is one of the most difficult things you can do, especially when you target a broad audience such as travel. There aren't really any statistics out there but type travel blogs into Google and see what you get back. I can name 30 “popular” travel bloggers off the top of my head.
